Introduction to MCNP Using the MCNP/MCNPX Visual Editor |
I
believe this is a great course for users at any level. I had never
used the Visual Editor or MCNP before the class but the curriculum is so
thorough and so well laid out that I was able to keep up with users with
many years of experience, who also expressed considerable satisfaction with
the class. The best part is that the class can be taken again and
again after you leave using the supplied manuals, exercises, and software.
The tools from the class become a valuable resource for general use of the
Visual Editor and MCNP. It was probably the best week I have ever
spent learning anything associated with the nuclear industry.Kelly Ellis - Lucas Engineering and Management Services, July 2007

Workshop Description
Participants MUST get MCNP/MCNPX from RSICC prior to the class or must be on the MCNPX approved beta users list. Bring proof of ownership to the workshop.
The Visual Editor is a Graphical User Interface for MCNPX. The Visual Editor is provided at no cost, but participants must get the MCNP5/MCNPX package (CCC-740) from RSICC or the NEA. The MCNP5/MCNPX code is created by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and is not part of the Visual Editor.
All participants must have a valid copy of the MCNP5/MCNPX code obtained from RSICC or the NEA because the Visual Editor will not run without the MCNP5/MCNPX cross sections contained in this package and both MCNP5/MCNPX and the Visual Editor are export controlled. For more information on obtaining MCNP/MCNPX and the Visual Editor, Click Here.
This workshop will be taught using the most recent (beta) version of the Visual Editor Code. Beta versions will only be available to participants that have a valid MCNP/MCNPX RSICC license.
The workshop combines teaching on MCNP physics, along with instructions on how to use the Visual Editor. Computer demonstrations and exercises will focus on creating and interrogating input files with the Visual Editor. Demonstrations of advanced visualization work using MCNP will also be made. Participants are encouraged to bring their own input files for viewing and modifying in the visual editor. Computers are provided with one student per computer. Participants are also welcome to bring their own laptop and take the workshop on their own system. For a more detailed course description, click here.
